It was a great success!

The Muskoka Literacy Council held their first Giant Used Book Sale on Friday, July 10th at the Trinity United Church in Huntsville. For their first fundraising used book sale, it was a great success! See photos below.

A few weeks before the sale, the Muskoka Literacy Council requested donations of gently used books from the community. The response was overwhelming. We received tons of used books from individuals, churches and libraries. On the day of the sale, the community was there again to take advantage of the great deals on gently used books. If it was not for the support of the community, this event would not have been the success that it was. It was a win-win situation for everyone. The Muskoka Literacy Council received fundraising dollars to enhance their adult programs, the community had an opportunity to do some spring cleaning and the used books were spared from the landfill sites.

The Muskoka Literacy Council would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their donations of gently used books, but also for their support in attending the sale. We especially have to thank Wanda Sawyer who spent many hours sorting the books as well as coordinating the volunteers who also assisted with sorting of books prior to the sale; Ellen Pickering, our Busker, who spent several hours/days downtown with her suitcase in hand advertising the sale; the many volunteers who assisted with the setup/cleanup and who worked at the sale. We could not have done it without you.

We must also thank the strong able-bodied gentlemen who carted the many boxes of books to and from the church. We thank the staff at Trinity United Church for their support; Century 21, Coldwell Banker, Homelife Muskoka Real Estate and Remax, all of Huntsville, who kindly provided us with sandwich boards for our posters; the Algonquin Theatre, LCBO and Canadian Tire for allowing us to place a sandwich board outside their premises for advertising; and the local businesses who displayed our posters. We also thank the BIA for approving the display of sandwich boards around the downtown area and to the Chamber of Commerce for their donation of bags. We thank Laura Maclean of the Forester for her fantastic article prior to our sale.

THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! We could not have done it without you.

Sincerely, The Students, Board of Directors and Staff of the Muskoka Literacy Council
