The Muskoka Novel Marathon 2009 held July 17 – 20 at the Muskoka Literacy Council was an outstanding success again due to the generosity of the community sponsors, the commitment of the helpers and the enthusiasm of the 22 writers. $3918 was raised by the writers to be donated to programs at the Muskoka Literacy Council. Our sincere thanks to Canadian Tire, Kelly’s Home Furniture, Robinson’s General Store for their donation of Muskoka chairs for prizes and to Bulk Barn, Robinson’s Independent, Subway King William and Little Caesar’s Pizza for providing food to sustain the writers. Thanks also to Bill Kaptein of Rainbow Inn and to Steve Carr of Comfort Inn for offering reduced rates for writers. Thanks also to judges Hap Wilson, Noreen Mitchell, Linda Toner-Fisher, Marguerite Urban and Louise Parkinson of the Bookcase and to Catherine Wyle of Coles who undertook the job of printing all 1588 pages several times. Thanks to Pat Hillcoat for staffing the registration desk. Linda McLean and Roy MacGregor had the awesome responsibility for beginning and ending the Story Relays to which the community enthusiastically participated. Special thanks to David Harris of Huntsville Online for coordinating entries for Linda’s story and to Steve Taunton of the Muskoka Literacy Council for coordinating entries to Roy’s story. Final editions can be found on the Muskoka Literacy Council website. Winners were announced at the wrap-up on Sunday, October 18, 2009.
