Muskoka Literacy Council

Hi Everyone, I want to formally announce this amazing brainchild of Paula Boon which came together with the help of the team at the Huntsville Forester and Metroland North Media. Last February, Paula approached Bill Allen with this proposal. He agreed. Fiona Haller at Metroland agreed as well and Patrick Cooper from the Forester created this wonderful website. Tracy Pender, Paula and Patrick worked closely on the project. Mel Malton, well known writer/actress/artist and one of the originators of the Muskoka Novel Marathon, agreed to put her script to the beginning of one story and, Roy MacGregor, home-grown Huntsville hero, agreed to begin the other in the adult category. Robert Munsch, well-loved children's author, has agreed to begin and end the children's story. They will read the stories at the close of the weekend and will add their endings to the story they started. Elke Scholz' painting, "Warm Conversations" which has become the logo for Muskoka Literacy Council also contributed the pen and ink drawing of the Muskoka Chair which has become the Muskoka Novel Marathon logo. I am blown away as all of this was done on a voluntary basis. The announcement of this initiative comes close to the release of news last week that 50% of Canadians are dealing with literacy barriers.
Please feel free to share the message with whomever you might think would be interested in joining the fun.
My sincere thanks to you, Paula, Patrick, Tracy, Mel, Roy, Robert, Elke, Bill and Fiona for the instrumental parts you played in this initiative.
Susan
